Exploring Ramadan: A Spiritual Sojourn in Mecca with AltTravel

Hello Travel Tribe,

Can you believe it? I’m currently having the most amazing Ramadan experience in Mecca, and I’m bursting to share every detail with you! Thanks to AltTravel’s Travel Now, Pay Later feature, my dream pilgrimage has become a reality.

Amidst the sacred atmosphere surrounding the iconic Kaaba, embraced by a multitude of pilgrims, we all share an indescribable spiritual connection. It’s a moment of unity, where the language of prayer and kindness unites us, standing in the city of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), where the echoes of prayers echo through the air.

Despite the reverent atmosphere of Mecca during this sacred month, I wander through the vibrant Al Otaybi Market, a lively explosion of colors and enchanting aromas. Spices with names I can’t pronounce, dates sweeter than any candy, and dishes that are a lively dance on my taste buds. I’m practically turning into a food critic, savoring everything from local delicacies to traditional sweets. My adventure isn’t just taking me on a journey; it’s feeding my soul (and my stomach!).

Finding gifts for my loved ones has been a breeze with the variety of souvenirs available, from tesbim to beautiful abayas. I even bought a gorgeous gold abaya for myself, planning to wear it at my local mosque back home. After all, how else will they know I visited Mecca?

My favorite part of the trip so far has been the delightful experience of Suhoor – the predawn meal that marks the beginning of the day’s fast. Picture the city draped in quietude as the morning unfolds, with the scent of hearty, nourishing dishes filling the air.

From velvety lentil soup to energizing fruits and the comforting warmth of Arabic coffee (qahwa), Suhoor is a peaceful celebration, a moment of preparation before the city stirs to the call of Fajr. For me, it’s more than just a meal; it’s a serene ritual, forging a profound connection between me and the essence of Ramadan in Mecca.

Here’s the best part – the people, the fellowship of meeting fellow kindred spirits of similar faith, all reverencing the sacred atmosphere. I’m meeting pilgrims from places I’ve only seen on maps. In the shadow of the minarets, we are swapping stories, sharing laughter, and becoming instant friends. It’s like this trip isn’t just transporting me but also introducing me to a global family. Who knew a journey could do that?

Oh, have I mentioned the Arabic words I’m picking up? From greetings like “As-salamu alaykum” to expressing gratitude, every “Alhamdulillah” feels like a warm embrace. Learning to say “Shukran” is becoming a ritual, connecting me to the locals in a way I never imagined. And let’s talk about the prayer times – an unearthly melody echoing through the city, guiding us all.

As I count down to the days before boarding the plane back home, I can’t believe how this experience has become so accessible thanks to Alttravel. My trip to Mecca has been more than a destination; it’s a spiritual recharge, and my return isn’t just to my city but to a life touched by the grace of Ramadan.

In the spirit of Mecca, let me express my gratitude for being part of this incredible journey with me.

Till next time, in another city…

Keep wandering,

Aisha
